New People and New Places

Cali is 7 months now and she's continuing to learn new things. She can sit and play without falling over and she likes that! She needs help getting into position, but once she's there she can keep her balance. She loves to stand, but needs help with that, too. If she's laying down and you put out your hands, she will grab on and lift herself up to stand. And if you try to set her down in a sitting position, she sometimes doesn't want to because she wants to stand.

2 or 3 weeks ago Cali started flipping over and sleeping on her tummy. It freaked me out the first time I found her asleep in her crib that way...but she was sound asleep. She will put her hands together and lay her little head on her hands...it's so cute. She does this during the night and also during naps sometimes.

Cali is eating well - she has 2 solid foods and 5 bottles a day now. We are going to transition her to 3 foods and see if we can drop a bottle this next week. Cali likes peaches, apples, pears, sweet potatoes, carrots, chicken and turkey. The last time she tried bananas, she did not like them, but we'll try them again sometime.

Last week was a big change for our family because I started my new job in Carmel and Cali started at her new daycare in Noblesville. John and I are no longer carpooling, but my drive is much shorter and I really like my new job. Cali is adjusting to her new place - last week was a little bumpy, but things seem to be smoothing out now. It is a loving and nurturing place and I know she is safe there - we just had to work through getting her adjusted to their schedule and vice versa. I hope that Cali starts to make friends at her daycare and looks forward to going each day. I still miss her so much during the day and I hesitate to make plans on the weekends because it just means less time with her. It's so much fun to play with her and see her smile and laugh and experience small things with such joy. I can't even imagine not having her in my life!

Another new thing that happened this week was Cali spent her first overnight away from home - at Grandpa and Gigi's house in Indy. John and I took the opportunity to stay downtown and take a mini vacation. It was really fun and we tried some new restaurants and saw a movie. It was a good distraction from thinking about Cali and wondering if she was ok...which she was, of course. She had a great time with the grandparents and slept well, which was a relief to me. We are practicing for our trip this fall when John and I will be leaving her for 4 days for our trip to San Francisco. I'm looking forward to it, but I know I'll be ready to come home and see my baby!
